Juliet Bidgood is an architect/urban designer who works at a range of scales from the tactical to the material to realise built projects or advise on the development of places. Her expertise is in public buildings and spaces and residential neighbourhoods.
Recent projects include Glastonbury Instant City an action research project with Central St Martins and CIAM6 Cities Re-Imagined for Bridgwater Arts Centre - a programme that amplified and revisited the town's international design heritage, devising a contemporary manifesto with young people. Projects also include a Place Analysis for the Sid Valley as peparation for a neighbourhood plan and a Bridge to the Parish Field for Caen Community Primary School. Juliet has advised local authorities and communities on design leadership, the preparation of design guidance, site development briefs and design competitions. She devised training for the Councillor's Design Companion and for the RIBA City CPD Club 'From Consultation to Co-Creation, ways to engage communities in design and planning processes'. She contributed to CABE and CABE Space design guides. She is expert in the national design standard Building for Life and in design strategies for and appraisal of residential neighbourhoods.
She curently co-chairs the Bristol Urban Design Forum and chairs the Housing Excellence Design Review Panel for the South West Design Review Panel. An experienced RIBA Client Adviser and project enabler she is a member of the RIBA Client Advisers Steering Group. Her practice is informed by research and the teaching of urban design and architecture at Cardiff University. She was a Senior Adviser at CABE, a CABE Enabler and a founding partner of the award-winning collaborative practice; muf Architecture/Art.
