St Andrews Park, Uxbridge
The strategy for the redevelopment of this former-MOD site in Uxbridge focused on three key themes of Culture & Heritage, Ecology and Healthy Living, in order to create a vibrant, thriving and attractive place which sits comfortably within its context and enhances the neighbouring areas. Working alongside the project architects, Allen Pyke Associates developed the Design Code and Landscape & Open Space Strategy for the site which comprises approximately 1,400 residential units, theatre, school, offices and retail around a new town square and public open space.
The complex site contains several important listed buildings and structures and an existing grid layout typical of military sites, which had to be considered as part of the masterplan. The site is located partially in Green Belt and bisected by the River Pinn. The layout had to respond to a wide range of landscape and environmental constraints and opportunities including mature woodland, badger setts and bats roosts and a Public Right of Way.
Allen Pyke’s broad ranges of skills meant we were involved throughout the life of the scheme from preparation of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment for the Environmental Statement and a Historical Landscape Report in support of the outline planning application, to overseeing post-consent construction works on site. Our wide reaching role extended to the design of a new District Park - one of Greater London’s largest new publicly accessible green spaces to be delivered for many years.
