Rutland Hill

A shared space in Newmarket town centre that incorporates a memorial to Bill Tutte, the son of a Newmarket gardener and unsung hero of the Second World War.  Bill Tutte worked at Bletchely Park and was responsible for cracking the 'Lorenz' code (arguably more important than the Enigma code).  Work commenced in the summer of 2014 and was unveiled on 10th September 2014.  It won a Planning Placemaking Award: Highly Commended.
