Halstead Town Centre, Essex

A small and historic market town, Halstead town centre struggled to retain its vitality and viability in the face of changing shopping behaviour. studio REAL, working alongside economic and transport specialists, prepared a strategy and delivery plan to guide investment into the town centre.

A core component of the strategy was to redevelop the under-used and derelict sites along the riverside, thus realising the potential of the river as an attractive space and route to the countryside, as well as growing the town centre population and increasing local catchment to the benefit of local shops and facilities. studio REAL used Model Lap to explore alternative layout arrangements and create a three-dimensional presentation of the riverside potential.
