Cityview Office Development, Brighton

This development is located within Brighton’s mixed-use New England Quarter, between the Railway Station and Jurys Inn Hotel, bordering Brighton Greenway, a landscaped public walkway, which facilitates pedestrian and cycling access towards the City. 

The 30,000 sq ft office comprises space on five levels with an Excellent BREEAM rating. It is composed of three distinct forms.  A white rendered block, punched with tall window openings, addresses the street and forms the base layer. This references the solid smooth rendered Regency terraces synonymous with Brighton.  Larger openings are created at street level on this façade to create a lively, active entrance frontage.

A ‘green’ wall on the south façade faces the adjacent railway station terminus.  Timber cladding to the south and east façades provides a softer backdrop to tie the building to the surrounding landscape and as a historical reference to the railway sleepers once stored on the site. 

A highly glazed wedge marks the eastern façade and a partially submerged Lower Ground level on this side ensures that the building supervises this stretch of public open space, while also providing stunning views over Brighton towards the coastline.  Another glass wedge on the north façade overlooks the walkway between office and hotel.

The prominent glass wedge layers not only extend the floors out of the solid rendered base box, but also permit views and appreciation of the interior from outside.  These acutely angled forms provide a reflective, constantly changing façade overlooking much of the city below.
