The client’s vision is to redefine a District Centre and regenerate a key part of the East End of London. Sheppard Robson has been appointed to develop proposals for the Chrisp Street area which includes existing market that has an important role to play as a centre of a community; we aim to draw upon this importance and character and build on current initiatives to transform what is a well-liked and valued part of Poplar.
The aim is to create an inspirational and vibrant new urban setting for the market with shops, a new 8-screen cinema, cafes and community facilities which will allow Chrisp Street to thrive. The principles of the masterplan proposals include new high quality retail, residential, transport/ servicing and public space improvements to create an animated and bustling market place, whilst retaining and integrating the existing heritage assets of the Festival of Britain buildings. The development will provide approximately 750 mixed tenure residential units.
