URBED
URBED (Urbanism, Environment and Design) is an award winning masterplanning and urban design consultancy based in Manchester.
Since URBED was founded over 40 years ago, we have been exploring how the principles of environmental sustainability can be applied to urban areas at masterplan and building scale. We pride ourselves on having a strong understanding of the challenges facing local authorities and communities, a commitment to discover their aspirations, and the tools and methods to co-design happy and liveable places.
We believe in building healthier communities, creating positive places to live, and enabling good design at urban as well as architectural scales.
Our visionary work and expertise was recognised through the Wolfson Economics Prize, which was awarded to David Rudlin and Nicholas Falk in 2014 for their work on how to create garden cities that are visionary, economically viable and popular.
URBED is an employee owned co-operative, and managed by its members. Our collaborative values reflect the work and services we undertake with clients, fellow consultants, and local communities. Our office is made up of a multi-disciplinary team of urban designers, planners, architects, and geographers.
Every year we co-ordinate 4x4 Manchester, an event series designed to challenge the way we think about our respective disciplines and promote a real debate about the state of our cities, stimulated by interesting, diverse and provocative speakers (4x4manchester.com).
